Yisel serves with her husband wholeheartedly. She graduated from Heritage Bible College & Seminary, Ontario, Canada with a degree in Christian education and has taught kindergarten for 10 years in Japan. She currently works as a head teacher at a school in Tokyo, and loves to host people.

Pastor (Interim)

Damian and Utako were both educated at Regents Theological College, Nantwich, where they gained Bachelor degrees in Applied Theology. They have been involved in Christian ministry from an early age and are passionate about raising up balanced, gospel-centered Christians. As well as working as a pastor, care-worker, dance teacher and stage performer, Damian also helped to lead a group of Christian artists known as C.A.L.E.B (Christian Artists Living and Expressing their Beliefs). His desire to bring together faith, community and creativity remains with him today.

Damian and Utako are currently serving as part of the Grace Church Planting Network--a group of churches working together to promote a church planting movement in Tokyo and across Japan. They long to see this network helping to raise up a new generation of church planters who are well equipped to bring spiritual, social and cultural renewal through the gospel, to both themselves, their families and the city.

Worship Director

Aki Sugawara grew up playing the sax in jazz bands, and has served as worship leader in various Bay-Area churches, leading with vocals and picking up instruments as needed. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, he spent much of his professional life working in Silicon Valley companies, including Yahoo and Fox Interactive Media. Graduating from UC Berkeley studying Japanese language and literature, he also spent a year at Kyoto University in an exchange program.

Aki became a Christian while living in Kyoto for two years, and returned to Japan feeling the call to ministry. His desire is to build up a vibrant, indigenous younger generations of Christians in Japan, who would use their musical talents to reach a world that that doesn’t know Christ.

Apart from an official coach to the church planter, our Advisory Elder Board functions as an external group of pastors and ministry leaders who provide informal coaching, wise counsel, and accountability for the lead pastor of The Bridge Fellowship. We are grateful for the willingness of these men to invest their wisdom, experience, and love for the church to help us launch and grow The Bridge Fellowship in this season.

As the Church plant matures, we will slowly and prayerfully identify and appoint a team of qualified Elders and deacons to serve and oversee the ministries of our church.

Please pray about serving in our core team. If interested, write to us at Join The Team. .
